GlobaLinks Learning Abroad: Italian Food and Wine

The excellence of Italian food and wine is recognized worldwide. Get a behind-the-scenes look at the industry, including the business, law, science, production, and cultural pleasures that come from the food and wine of Italy. Delivered by Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (UCSC) agriculture faculty and distinguished food and wine company managers, learn about how food and wine is produced, distributed, and the operations side in various businesses and organizations. Located in Piacenza, the heart of the Italian Food Valley, the program includes lectures, industry speakers, seminars, and field trips with plenty of opportunities to sample and taste the food and wine of the region. The program is taught completely in English and no previous Italian language experience is necessary.

Location

This program is based in Piacenza, Italy, about 40 miles from Milan. Piacenza is a typical town of ancient Central-Northern Italy. The Italian excellence in the agriculture and food business is recognized worldwide. Piacenza, the city where the the program will be held, is in the heart of the Italian agricultural and food production area, also know as the Italian Food Valley, where many leading companies (such as Parmalat and Barilla) are based. In addition to its immediate proximity to Parma (Parma ham), Modena (balsamic vinegar), and Bologna (Mortadella, also known as bologna ham), Università Cattolica’s Faculty of Agriculture has very strong ties to other food industry giants and to smaller local artisan food producers. Studying in Piacenza will give you the precious opportunity to combine access to such production with the economic and managerial approach delivered by our faculty and by distinguished agri-business company managers.
