Victoria University of Wellington
Overview
Victoria University of Wellington is located in Wellington, New Zealand's vibrant and cosmopolitan capital city. Victoria offers students the opportunity to live and study in New Zealand's cultural, political, and intellectual capital. Victoria prides itself as a university with a significant international focus and a strong domestic base. The University is home to over 21,000 students, including around 2,700 international students.
Location
Wellington is also the perfect staging point for students wanting to travel and enjoy the whole of New Zealand. It is an energetic, compact city situated at the southern tip of New Zealand's North Island, between a beautiful harbor and rolling green hills.
Academic Highlights
Located in Wellington are Crown Research Institutes, the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa, and national cultural assets such as the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. Victoria has strong links with these institutions in both teaching and research, as well as with the city's many other museums, archives, libraries, scientific institutes, cultural bodies, financial, legal and business institutions, and political and government agencies. The University's strengths also include film and media studies, political science and international relations, architecture and design, and earth sciences. In 2008, Humanities and Social Sciences at Victoria were ranked in the Top 100 in the world by the UK Times Higher Education Supplement.
Guaranteed Housing
GlobaLinks Learning Abroad students are guaranteed pre-arranged accommodation at VUW. There are a variety of housing options available which you will apply for after acceptance. Options include pre-arranged accommodations with or without meals and housing arranged upon arrival by student.
Special Programs
The Victoria International Leadership Program (VILP) is open to all Victoria students, including study abroad students. VILP is the first of its kind in New Zealand and requires participants to attend seminars, speaker events, and experiential activities during the semester. The program is a new internationalization initiative and extra-curricular opportunity for students to enhance their global competency, intercultural awareness, and leadership potential while studying at Victoria University of Wellington. VILP is open to all students for no additional cost and, upon successful completion, acknowledged with a Certificate of Participation for study abroad students.
Victoria University of Wellington also offers GlobaLinks students the opportunity to expand their knowledge and develop their skills in the sports of golf or rugby. For an additional fee, semester/year abroad students can participate in either the Golf or Rugby Study Abroad Program as an add-on to their standard semester experience.
Scholarships Available
In addition to the scholarships offered by GlobaLinks Learning Abroad, Victoria University of Wellington offers scholarships to the value of $2,000 USD per year allocating the awards in two separate scholarships.
About GlobaLinks Learning Abroad Programs
GlobaLinks Learning Abroad programs are created with individual student's goals in mind. Our programs are built around a unique Discovery Model which is delivered by our amazing staff, both in the U.S. and overseas. Our Discovery Model provides every student with an individualized experience through discovery in 5 key areas: personal, academic, cultural, social, and professional. Our North American staff counsels each student through the application and enrollment process, and our on-site Resident Coordinators set up a calendar of activities for students related to each area of discovery. These activities are more than just tourist excursions, and include opportunities like networking events, local festivals, gallery openings, and other similar events that you can't find in a travel book.
GlobaLinks Learning Abroad programs include everything you would expect in a study abroad program: guaranteed housing, 24-hour in-country support, an in-country multi-day orientation program, comprehensive pre-departure services, excursions, and discovery activities to make the most out of each student's experience. Students of all majors are welcome to apply and scholarships are available.
