GlobaLinks Learning Abroad
University of Tasmania

Overview

The University of Tasmania (UTAS) was founded in 1890, making it the fourth oldest university in Australia. With a dynamic course offering, a safe and friendly environment, UTAS is home to over 3,500 international students and a total of over 20,000 students.

Location

If you like the outdoors, seeing beautiful scenery or enjoy art, music, literature, and real food you may not want to go home after your semester here! Less than one hour from the mainland, Tasmania is Australia's island state and is a popular destination for those who enjoy adventure and culture.  It has been described by the New York Times as a class act offering high quality food, music, art, literature, and beautiful Georgian architecture.

The University's Hobart campus is set in the suburb of Sandy Bay within walking distance to the city center of Hobart.

Academic Highlights

UTAS is very strong in research, teaching a wide range of subjects very well (the best completion rate of any Uni in Australia), and is known for the friendliness and accessibility of its teaching staff.  Some of its programs are among the world's best; particularly those related to ocean studies.

The academic strengths of the Hobart campus include Antarctic studies, marine studies, fine arts, geography & environmental studies, law, journalism & media studies, business, and zoology.

Guaranteed Housing

GlobaLinks Learning Abroad students are guaranteed pre-arranged accommodation at the University of Tasmania. There are a variety of housing options available which you will apply for after acceptance. Options include pre-arranged accommodations without meals and housing arranged upon arrival by student.

Special Programs

Particular strengths that attract Study Abroad students include animal and marine sciences, geography and environmental studies (including natural environment and wilderness management), and fine and performing arts.

These particular areas of study take full advantage of Tasmania's National Parks and World Heritage Area by offering a variety of units which include field studies that are integral to each course and provide a real hands-on educational experience.

About GlobaLinks Learning Abroad Programs

GlobaLinks Learning Abroad, formerly AustraLearn, programs are created with individual student's goals in mind. Our programs are built around a unique Discovery Model which is delivered by our amazing staff, both in the U.S. and overseas. Our Discovery Model provides every student with an individualized experience through discovery in 5 key areas: personal, academic, cultural, social, and professional. Our North American staff counsels each student through the application and enrollment process, and our on-site Resident Coordinators set up a calendar of activities for students related to each area of discovery. These activities are more than just tourist excursions, and include opportunities like networking events, local festivals, gallery openings, and other similar events that you can't find in a travel book.

GlobaLinks Learning Abroad programs in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji include everything you would expect in a study abroad program: guaranteed housing, 24-hour in-country support, an in-country multi-day orientation program, comprehensive pre-departure services, excursions, and discovery activities to make the most out of each student's experience. Students of all majors are welcome to apply and scholarships are available.
