The University has one of the finest campuses in Europe and has an excellent reputation for both research and teaching. Many students comment on the friendly atmosphere of a medium-sized university, with a large number opting to live on campus with its great amenities and strong community feel.

Academic Highlights

The most popular subjects are in the liberal arts including Scottish history, British and European politics, literature, and culture. The majority of Stirling's classes, called "modules," are available to study abroad students.

Location

The University of Stirling is located in the heart of Scotland, nestled at the foot of the HigWallace Monumenthlands and about two miles from the historic city of Stirling. Stirling is conveniently located less than one hour by train, coach, or car from Scotland's most famous cities, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Stirling is one of the most attractive places to live and study in the UK, offering a vibrant mix of the historic and modern. The city has a population of around 40,000 and offers a great mix of small city and rural lifestyles. Students make up over 20 percent of Stirling's population and this is reflected in both the feel of the city and the broad range of amenities on offer. Stirling is also a major tourist destination which attracts visitors from all over the world to view the historic sites of Stirling Castle, the National Wallace Monument, the sight of the Battle of Bannockburn, and Stirling Bridge. The city is well-served by bistros, cafes, and restaurants, as well as offering a wide variety of social and leisure facilities.

Housing

The University of Stirling offers a fantastic range of housing from on-campus shared flats (apartments) and chalets, to shared flats in the center of Stirling. Study abroad students are guaranteed university housing for the duration of their program. Accommodation at Stirling is organized in  self-catered units. All housing has cooking facilities so that students may make their own meals. Alternatively, there is a range of on-campus restaurants, where flexible meal plans are available.

All study bedrooms are single occupancy with a bed, wardrobe, desk, storage space, and a wash hand basin. Bed linen is provided, however students will have to buy cooking utensils once they have arrived. Wireless internet access is available throughout the campus.

About GlobaLinks Learning Abroad Programs

GlobaLinks Learning Abroad programs are created with individual student's goals in mind. Our programs are built around a unique Discovery Model which is delivered by our amazing staff, both in the U.S. and overseas. Our Discovery Model provides every student with an individualized experience through discovery in 5 key areas: personal, academic, cultural, social, and professional. Our North American staff counsels each student through the application and enrollment process, and our on-site Resident Coordinators set up a calendar of activities for students related to each area of discovery. These activities are more than just tourist excursions, and include opportunities like networking events, local festivals, gallery openings, and other similar events that you can't find in a travel book.

GlobaLinks Learning Abroad programs include everything you would expect in a study abroad program: guaranteed housing, 24-hour in-country support, an in-country multi-day orientation program, comprehensive pre-departure services, and discovery activities to make the most out of each student's experience. Students of all majors are welcome to apply, and no prior language skill is required even for foreign-speaking destinations as some or all courses are taught in English at each university. Scholarships are available.
