GlobaLinks Learning Abroad
University of Sevilla

Who Should Apply

Applications are welcome from students who have achieved at least a 2.5 GPA. Students must have completed at least 1 year of full-time university study by the time of study abroad. Applicants wishing to take content course in Spanish must have a High Intermediate level of Spanish (4 semesters of college level Spanish or equivalent).

Overview

The University of Sevilla was founded in the beginning of 16th century and is one of the largest and oldest universities in Spain. With a student population of 70,000 approximately and 2,000 international students the university is an ideal academic institution for interacting with local Spaniards since both Spanish and foreign students share buildings and other facilities. The university is very centrally located and the main building where our students will attend classes was centuries ago the Royal Tobacco Factory, which served as the backdrop of the opera Carmen.

The University of Sevilla offers programs to American students through its Cursos Concertados con Universidades Extranjeras. Established in 1972 Cursos Concertados have a long tradition teaching international students. Many courses are for students with high intermediate and advanced level of Spanish; however, there are also some courses taught in English for students who do not have that level of Spanish.

Courses taught at Cursos Concertados are related to the academic disciplines of the Colleges of Philology, Geography, and History. It is a very complete program of Liberal Arts courses taught by Spanish and international faculty.

Academic Highlights

Semester students must choose 4 or 5 courses to be considered a full-time student. There are a large variety of courses in Spanish Language. There are also Spanish and English content courses in Business, Economics, Marketing, Politics, Art, History, Literature, Women Studies, and more. Students may have a variety of courses in the three different fields of Business, European Studies, and Humanities. Applicants wishing to take content course in Spanish must have a High Intermediate level of Spanish (4 semesters of college level Spanish or equivalent).

Location

Sevilla is the capital of the region of Andalusia and the fourth largest city in Spain with a total population of 750,000. Rich in history, traditions, and popular culture, Sevilla is very well known for the beauty of its architecture, where Christian and Muslim buildings spread across the city center; its parks and gardens, its holy week; and its flamenco tradition. Sevilla's famous bullfighting ring, La Maestranza, is for many people the most beautiful in the world. Sevilla's friendly atmosphere makes it the perfect place to discover the essence of the most common Spanish stereotype, flamenco and bullfights. However, the city is also a modern urban spot where tradition and modern exist side by side.

Housing

Students may choose from 3 different housing options: homestay, shared apartment, or an off-campus student residence.

About GlobaLinks Learning Abroad Programs

GlobaLinks Learning Abroad programs are created with individual student's goals in mind. Our programs are built around a unique Discovery Model which is delivered by our amazing staff, both in the U.S. and overseas. Our Discovery Model provides every student with an individualized experience through discovery in 5 key areas: personal, academic, cultural, social, and professional. Our North American staff counsels each student through the application and enrollment process, and our on-site Resident Coordinators set up a calendar of activities for students related to each area of discovery. These activities are more than just tourist excursions, and include opportunities like networking events, local festivals, gallery openings, and other similar events that you can't find in a travel book.

GlobaLinks Learning Abroad programs include everything you would expect in a study abroad program: guaranteed housing, 24-hour in-country support, an in-country multi-day orientation program, comprehensive pre-departure services, excursions, and discovery activities to make the most out of each student's experience. Scholarships are available.
