Areas of study include classes in business, economics, political science, international relations, communications, or Italian language and culture.
Overview
Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (UCSC), Milan, Italy's premier private university, is one of the most comprehensive higher education institutions in Italy. For the first time in Italy, international study abroad students may enroll in a comprehensive Italian university and receive their education in English.
The semester courses delivered in English are designed for students who want to increase their understanding of the political, business, cultural, and artistic environment and heritage of Italy. The courses define Italy's role within the European Union as well as her relationship with non-European countries. Students who are fluent in Italian can enroll in Italian-taught courses across a variety of disciplines.
Academic Information
All UCSC courses in English are 44 contact hours per semester and are worth 3 U.S. credits (6 ECTS). A student must enroll in a minimum of four courses per semester. Available classes include:
International Financial Markets
Strategic Management of Small and Medium Enterprises
The Italian Economy: Economic Miracles and Malaise
Business, Government and the Global Economy
The European Union in the World
The Political Economy of the European Union
International Relations and the Middle East: A Comparative European Perspective
From B-movies Dusk to Hollywood Dawn
Methods of Illusion: la mise-en-scéne from drama to fiction and visual arts
Total Business Communication: An integrated approach to Corporate Marketing
Emotional Branding Strategies and Consumer Engagement
Media and the City: the Social Impact of Media on Gender and Behavior
Luxury You Must Afford: Visual Communication and Persuasion in Fashion and Luxury Goods
Italian Language and Culture courses are offered at all levels (beginners to advanced) either as a pre-session or semester course. Students may also opt to take both. The pre-session is 50 contact hours and is worth 5 ECTS or about 3-4 U.S. credits. The semester course is offered during the academic semester and is 40 contact hours, worth 3 ECTS.
Location
Located in the city center of Milan, the UCSC campus is within walking distance of many of Milan's historical, cultural, and religious sites. UCSC offers international students the opportunity to take stimulating classes while experiencing one of Italy's most popular cities, known for its fast-growing industries, including fashion, media, and finance, as well as its fascinating historical sites coupled with all the amenities of modern city life.
Housing
GlobaLinks Learning Abroad and UCSC Milan work with a housing service located on campus that places students in shared apartments across the city. The apartments include wireless Internet connections, utilities (water and electricity), cleaning service, basic cable television, and are fully furnished including extra amenities such as a DVD player, television set, and kitchenware.
About GlobaLinks Learning Abroad Programs
GlobaLinks Learning Abroad programs are created with individual student's goals in mind. Our programs are built around a unique Discovery Model which is delivered by our amazing staff, both in the U.S. and overseas. Our Discovery Model provides every student with an individualized experience through discovery in 5 key areas: personal, academic, cultural, social, and professional. Our North American staff counsels each student through the application and enrollment process, and our on-site Resident Coordinators set up a calendar of activities for students related to each area of discovery. These activities are more than just tourist excursions, and include opportunities like networking events, local festivals, gallery openings, and other similar events that you can't find in a travel book.
GlobaLinks Learning Abroad programs include everything you would expect in a study abroad program: guaranteed housing, 24-hour in-country support, an in-country multi-day orientation program, comprehensive pre-departure services, and discovery activities to make the most out of each student's experience. Students of all majors are welcome to apply, and no prior language skill is required even for foreign-speaking destinations as some or all courses are taught in English at each university. Scholarships are available.
