GlobaLinks Learning Abroad
Macquarie University

Overview

As a Macquarie University student you will join a diverse and welcoming community of 35,000 students, including 12,000 international students from over 110 countries.

Ranked among the top two percent of universities worldwide and within the top 40 in the Asia-Pacific region (Shanghai Jiao Tong Academic Rankings of World Universities 2011), Macquarie University is recognized for its innovative curriculum, high-quality teaching and research, and enviable campus environment.

Macquarie University graduates develop the skills, qualities and knowledge they need to succeed in the global workforce. In 2011, a New York Times syndicated survey of global CEOs ranked Macquarie in the top 100 worldwide for graduate recruitment.

Set on 126 hectares of parkland 30 minutes from Sydney’s city centre, Macquarie’s beautiful campus environment is the envy of other Australian universities and is the perfect place to study, work and live. Macquarie was ranked the greenest university in NSW by national newspaper The Australian.

The Macquarie University Study Abroad Program offers international students the opportunity to study at Macquarie for either one or two semesters.

Location

Macquarie University's North Ryde campus is located in parklands only 30 minutes drive (15 kilometres) north-west of Sydney Harbour and Sydney's central business district. The modern, well-equipped campus is set on 126 hectares of peaceful parkland in one of Australia's premier high-technology corridors. The campus features eateries and recreational facilities, in addition to extensive library and computer facilities, a state-of-the-art Sport and Aquatic Centre, an acclaimed sculpture park, several museums, and two hotels.

Academic Highlights

Students can enroll in classes across a variety of disciplines. Research placements are also available. The placements enable applicants to participate in a laboratory or research center based placement to undertake a project of between three and nine months in their academic disciplines.

Study Abroad students can actively participate in Macquarie University's Warawara Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders program classes, which explore the deeper understanding of Aboriginal history and culture.

Guaranteed Housing

GlobaLinks Learning Abroad students are guaranteed pre-arranged accommodation at Macquarie. There are a variety of housing options available which you will apply for after acceptance. Options include pre-arranged accommodations without meals and housing arranged upon arrival by student.

Special Programs

Macquarie University offers students the opportunity to apply for international volunteer placements while they are studying in Australia.

Scholarships Available
In addition to the scholarships offered by GlobaLinks Learning Abroad, Macquarie University and GlobaLinks offer the Gina Rosko Memorial Scholarship (tuition and housing for one semester) for the July term.

About GlobaLinks Learning Abroad Programs

GlobaLinks Learning Abroad programs are created with individual student's goals in mind. Our programs are built around a unique Discovery Model which is delivered by our amazing staff, both in the U.S. and overseas. Our Discovery Model provides every student with an individualized experience through discovery in 5 key areas: personal, academic, cultural, social, and professional. Our North American staff counsels each student through the application and enrollment process, and our on-site Resident Coordinators set up a calendar of activities for students related to each area of discovery. These activities are more than just tourist excursions, and include opportunities like networking events, local festivals, gallery openings, and other similar events that you can't find in a travel book.

GlobaLinks Learning Abroad programs in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji include everything you would expect in a study abroad program: guaranteed housing, 24-hour in-country support, an in-country multi-day orientation program, comprehensive pre-departure services, excursions, and discovery activities to make the most out of each student's experience. Students of all majors are welcome to apply and scholarships are available.

In addition to our multi-day Bridging Cultures Orientation Program, GlobaLinks Learning Abroad includes excursions in our Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji semester/year abroad programs. Each participant can choose one of the following four exciting excursions: Legian Beach in Bali, Queenstown and Milford sound in New Zealand, a Fiji island resort, or the Whitsundays in Australia! All tour costs are included, and all you have to do is get yourself to the departure point.
