GlobaLinks Learning Abroad: The Australian Business Experience

GlobaLinks Learning Abroad has designed this short-term program with your individual student goals in mind. It is built around a unique Discovery Model which is delivered by some of the best staff in study abroad, both in the U.S. and overseas, in order to provide you with an individualized experience through discovery in 5 key areas: personal, academic, cultural, social, and professional. This two week program, offered through The University of Melbourne and GlobaLinks Learning Abroad, is designed to develop broad, integrated knowledge of international business practices and skills needed to work in global companies. Students will acquire insight into the social, cultural, political, and economic factors that influence business in the global environment, while gaining an introduction to the important role that Asia-Pacific countries play in the world economy. Students will gain skills on how to make a career in global business a reality through teachings in marketing, economics, governance, communication, and more.
 
An exciting schedule of activities on campus and in Melbourne is included as part of the program. Some excursions may include:
  • Social networking sessions
  • Melbourne city excursions, including visits to galleries, museums and sporting events
  • Highlights of Victoria weekend excursion
  • The delights of Melbourne's inner city restaurant and entertainment precincts

Location

Consistently named one of the world's most liveable cities, Melbourne - the capital city of Victoria - is an exciting and entertaining place to be. It's a city of culture, diversity, universities, museums, food and coffee. Melbourne is a modern, multicultural city of approximately 4 million people. Some 50,000 international students find Melbourne an ideal place to study and live.
During the two week program students will have the opportunity to tour Melbourne, visit the Eureka Tower, tour the Parliament House, visit the National Gallery of Victoria and Immigration Museum, have dinner in Chinatown and go to the Theatre. Additionally, students will spend a weekend exploring the Great Ocean Road.

Academic Focus

The program will be held at the University of Melbourne's Parkville campus in Melbourne, Australia. Teaching is highly interactive and coursework includes a challenging team project and lectures by leading experts in the fields of international business. The program will also include social and cultural activities that will highlight the unique features of Melbourne and Australia. Students will participate in formal lectures, group discussions and projects, local business guest speakers, excursions and reflection papers. Students should have a firm understanding of business. The course will be taught by a handful of University of Melbourne faculty in the Business and Economics school and the School of Social and Political Sciences. Upon successful completion students will receive 3-4 US credits on an official University of Melbourne transcript.
